Welcome to BourbonBudget.com! As an Iowa-based whiskey (bourbon, rye mostly) hobbyist, I’ve built my passion around discovering standout pours and honest values—especially from distilleries that are doing something a bit more craft; such as my local Cedar Ridge Distillery in Iowa. Some of my other favorites include Foundry Distilling Company, and Mississippi River Distilling in Iowa. I enjoy Jeppson’s and FEW Spirits in Illinois, and Michigan’s Journeyman, Evernorth, New Holland, and Iron Fish and Mammoth Distilling brands.
I don’t shy away from the big names, and love finding bottles that share mash bills and distilling processes with some of the most known names out there. Take an Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star at $50 for a 1.75L compared to a Blanton’s — you’ll find many shared profiles between the two!
At my heart I’m a midwest kid; I appreciate craftsmanship and stories behind the bottle, private barrel picks by local shops, cask strength surprises, the thrill of a gifted bottle, but above all — the satisfaction of picking up a tasty bottle — on a budget I can afford.
Getting started in bourbon was both exhilarating and humbling; I still remember the early excitement of scoring bottles at a local shop—only to later find out I’d overpaid by almost 40%. It stung, but that experience gave me the resolve to learn, connect, and help guide others so their bourbon journey can be filled with good finds and great friends instead. Luckily, the purchase (Hemingway Rye) was one that I still enjoyed in the end!
This community is dedicated to sharing not just deals and reviews, but general advice, collecting tips, and—most importantly—the joy of connecting with other enthusiasts. Whether you’re diving into your first bottle of Cedar Ridge Single Barrel, sipping a unique release from Journeyman’s, or on the hunt for a New Holland special release or Mammoth bottle from generations old rye, you’ll find guidance and camaraderie here. Ask questions, tell your stories, and help each other discover the best the Midwest (and beyond) has to offer—without falling for the pitfalls that trip up so many newcomers.
Raise a glass, enjoy, and let’s journey together toward great bourbon at a fair price.
